The story for the GMT-Master begins when Pan American Airways (Pan Am) and another world-renowned aviation company purportedly commissioned Rolex to create a wristwatch suitable for their pilots: one that allowed them to efficiently tell two time zones simultaneously.

Pan Am cites their President Juan Trippe had approached Rolex to create a watch for the airline pilots which resulted in the reference 6542. Throughout the 1950s to 1970s, Pan Am was regarded as a preeminent airline and became one of the largest international air carriers.

The company took pride in equipping their pilots with the best amenities - the GMT-Master being one of them! Rolex was thrilled to highlight this relationship with Pan Am in marketing materials.

It is akin to the way Rolex highlights their relationships with events such as the PGA Championship, Wimbledon, and the Academy Awards.

• offering for sale an absolutely stunning pumpkin patina Rolex 1675 GMT Master MK2 full set with original purchase receipt from 1972
• Case: Stainless Steel screw back case (stamped 71) is in excellent condition amd looks unpolished with strong bevels
• Dial: 100% original MK2 matte dial (period correct) with deep pumpkin patina with matching tritium hands (non-glow). Dial is in near mint condition with no blemish worth mentioning. I would rate this original dial at 90% condition
• Bezel: Stainless Steel bezel is in excellent condition with a blue back Pepsi insert that’s lightly faded.
• Movement: caliber 1570 (hacking) movement is in excellent working condition serviced not too long ago.
• Bracelet: 7836 bracelet with 280 flush fit is period correct but with a service 7836 clasp code. Bracelet has been restored professionally and is still tight with hardly any stretch!
• Accessories: Complete with period correct Seahorse inner / outer boxes, period correct chronometer tag, green hang tag with matching serial number, guarantee booklet (punched), chronometer certificate, 1972/73 calendar, GMT box insert & the original purchase receipt from a HK retailer.
